So it’s official, we’re engaged! This year has been so crazy and a proposal was the last thing I was expecting. Austin and I have been together for 3 years & we’ve definitely talked about our future together. But the reality of it happening was so amazing! So let’s jump right into it:
1 month Pre-Proposal
Last summer, Austin and I went to a few local jewelers to get me sized for a ring. I got a good idea of what I liked and didn’t like (years of Pinteresting definitely prepared me for this moment). I definitely wanted a Rose Gold ring with diamonds on the band and an oval diamond without a halo. Fast forward to July 2020, Austin created my dream ring on Brilliant Earth! He said the process was pretty painless and it got here in less than 2 weeks.
The day the ring was set to get delivered, there was an issue with FedEx shipping and they were going to further delay the delivery. Luckily, his mom was able to call in and talk to them to make sure my ring got delivered on time. Austin even left work early to grab the ring before I got home since we both get out of work at 5pm! I found out about all the delivery drama afterwards but here’s his first glimpse of the ring:

The Week Before
During the week, Austin got a new job with a brand new title! I was so excited for him and we definitely had to go out to celebrate him. Which leads us to….
PROPOSAL DAY!
We had plans to go to Texas De Brazil in downtown Detroit to celebrate Austin. He even said that he’d take me to different places to take pictures. So the whole afternoon, I’m getting ready because I usually have to BEG him for pictures. About an hour before we leave, he goes into our bedroom and closes the door. I have a beauty room right next door so I don’t think much of it.
All of a sudden, I hear loud banging noises for what seems like an eternity. Then he leaves and grabs his tool bag but still closes the door. Suddenly his phone is ringing and he starts yelling but like quiet yelling which was also soo weird. At this point, I’m pretty sure that he’s lost his mind, I leave and go sit in the living room and turn up the sound on the TV because I hate yelling.
After like 30 minutes, he walks out fully dresses like nothing happened! I literally say, “WTF was all that about!” He smiles and makes up a lie about needing his SSCard and birth certificate for his start date but they were locked in his safe. (Come to find out, the ring was locked in his safe because the batteries died. He was freaking out and calling his parents for help. The proposal almost didn’t happen! They helped him calm down and find the key)
For a split second I really thought that something was up! But then again, I also thought I was imagining things so I let it go.
1 Hour Pre Proposal

Turns out, Texas De Brazil was completely booked up so we went to this cute restaurant down the street for some yummy Mexican food. It was bomb!

We left and went to Belle Isle (which is a park in downtown Detroit) for some pictures. It was super windy so my poses were pretty boring haha 😆. Austin brought his actual camera and was snapping away.
Then we went to the fountain to get some last shots because the water was beautiful! There was a wedding going on behind us so we found an empty spot. Austin asked if I wanted a picture with him. He never takes pictures so I said uh yes duh! I saw a dad with his family walking away from taking pictures in front of the fountain so I took the plunge and asked him. Austin said he was already warmed up from taking pictures so he would be great hahaha
I give him Austin’s phone and Austin goes to put down his camera bag. I turned away to get ready for the pictures, Austin walks up to me and I’m posing for a picture but instead he grabs my hands.
After that, all I remember is that he said, “you know I want to spend the rest of my life with you” and from then on, I was a HOTTTTT MESSSSS! I always thought that I’d be really excited when he finally proposed, but it was such an emotional moment that all I did was cry. Even Austin was surprised that I cried and it made him tear up to. Needless to say, we made our camera guys day! There was a crowd that had formed around us but all I remember is him telling me how much he loved me, how he planned it, and how he asked for my dads’ permission to ask for my hand in marriage.

After crying for what felt like an eternity, we called all of our families and close friends . The rest of the night was spent just enjoying the moment. The next day we went out to grab some brunch and then I posted the official announcement. It felt great knowing that all those closest to us knew before the rest of the world.
It was such a magical moment and it’s something that I’ll never ever forget💗 Next up, WEDDING PLANNING!
This was such a cute way to propose and so simple too ! I love how he thought to get the moment captured – so cute to look back on and have the actual action shots!
